Bean Pot Lead Free Large 6 QT
The dimensions for the Lead Free Clay bean pot are: 8" Height x 10" Width- 6.5" inside diameter. It has the capacity of six quarts which is a gallon and a half, designed to cook on open flame and electric stove tops. Please note this item may have minor variations to the one shown on the picture and it can be slightly different on size, color, and porosity as each piece is handcrafted by an artisan. M1508
Get ready to enjoy your lead-free clay Bean pot!
Below you will find our recommended procedures to cure the pot.
1.- Soak outer bottom part in cold water for 2 hrs
2.- Fill the pot with cool water below the rim
3.- Bring water to a boil and allow to simmer for 5 minutes
4.- Turn off the heat and allow the water to cool down (best if you leave overnight)
5.- Discard the water
6.- Clean it with with a grain salt paste or baking soda and rinse with water
7.- Clay pot is ready for use!
Avoid dishwashing liquids or soaps. Scrub it with a plastic scraper.

Great purchase, I brought this a little over a year ago and finally cured to make black beans. Beans turned out fantastic!
Curing was easy; I let the pot and lid soak in water for about 24 hrs, after the soak I patted both dry and rubbed several garlic cloves all over (inside and out). Because some of the glaze chipped off while soaking I went a step further to make sure I wasn't cooking with any impurities and did a second cure by filling the pot about 1/2" from the rim with water and a 1/4 cup white vinegar; I boiled until most of the water was evaporated. After letting cool enough to handle, I drained the water and gave a quick rinse.
Note*
I have an electronic glass stovetop so I purchased a heat diffuser plate so that the top of my stovetop wouldn't be scratched and the pot wouldn't break with the temper changes.
I would highly recommend investing in Clay cookware, it will take your dishes to another level of yummy.![]()

I received this as a gift from my daughters for Christmas. And I absolutely LOVE IT!!! I told them I remember when I was young my great grandmother would use these type of cooking pots and I think with all the stories I tell my kids they wanted some of that authentic taste. Well I made my pot of beans, but with my beans I add garlic cloves (2), a little bit of yellow onion, Anaheim Chili a few strips, salt and of course a piece of chicharron. The real stuff from a Mexican meat store market, not the grocery store in a bag stuff. It’s a little pricey, but well worth it. Unless you can cook it yourself. I am beyond thrilled with my pot. I will definitely be recommending this pot and telling people where my pot was purchased.

Was very excited waiting for this to arrive. It was so well packaged and wrapped in lots of paper. The sticker put on the pot took some of the glaze design off sadly but it's only on one side. Very happy with it's size. Will order more clay and ceramic items from here.

I have used this pot for several years and loved using it. I started buying Ranch Gordo beans and Purcell heirloom to cook in this pot. Unfortunately it has developed a crack so I will use it as a planter. I will now invest in a heavy duty pot. I did soak before each use, so I just think it's too thin.

I was looking forward to my new pot. I had previously purchased the same one and given it to my daughter. This one came with a crack down the side. Not surprised because of the packaging. The box you see in the picture is the box it came in. I reached out to customer service twice but have received no response. Nearly $40 down the drain

- Like the glossy finish and the instructions on how to treat it before use. They also included a bean recipe. That was kewl. It is huge and could cook 4 cups of beans for a party gathering. The handles are very supportive when lifting the pot. Good to use them new rubbermaid heat resistant pot holders. Gave it as a gift and am sure its a handy addition to their home.

I bought one for my sister in NM, and it arrived with 2 nicks. One was small enough for her to accept, but the other was quite large. My sister said the pot was very well packed so the nicks must have been there when they packed it, and the packer just missed them. I contacted Mexgrocer and they apologized, and sent a replacement. The 5 star rating is for the excellent customer service. I told my sister I'll wait until she makes a pot of beans before I order one. So my question to all who have posted here, and maybe have suggestions on cooking beans in this pot, send to Mexgrocer to see if they will post in a section called recipes. Thank you.

I have been looking for an inexpensive earthenware bean pot from mexico and found it at mexgrocer. It is a large, attractive pot, and my beans taste good

- handles are ridiculously tiny. you cannot fit your finger in there, and you are likely to drop the pot if you do not pinch the handles with all your might. Same for the pot lid. it barely can be grasped. if you have giant man hands, you are doomed. Clearly no one was thinking about the end user when the pot was designed, they just had people slap the clay on without any thought. too bad.

This pot is absolutely beautiful. However, my olla de Barro arrived cracked and unusable. I contacted customer service and they promptly sent me a replacement. Unfortunately, the second one arrived broken in 3 large pieces (the mail system doesn't seem to understand "fragile" on the shipping box). I again contacted customer service and they issued me a refund. I would love to own this olla de Barro but I don't want to attempt another shipment and have it break.

I read the reviews and was compelled to try this. The lid does not get hot, my green eyed honey made the beans himself. My grandmother gave him the recipe before she passed. No I gas, with a bit of garlic?! In Spanish of course. I love this website, because it helps us finds things that are almost impossible to find in Fl. The pot makes the entire house smell like Mamas. The beans have an amazing flavor. 5 stars, lid does not fit correctly, but who cares the integrity is there!!
