Tequila
Tequila is a distilled beverage that is made from the blue agave plant that is found in the highlands of Jalisco, Mexico. The origin of the agave dates back to the Aztecs who previously made a fermented beverage from the plant they called octili and was later given its popular name: pulque. When the Spanish coquistadors arrived in Mexico, some time after running out of brandy they began to distill agave in order to produce North America’s first indigenous distilled liquor. After the Spanish conquest tequila has become a popular drink that represents Mexican pride and culture. Tequila is most often served in a narrow shot glass which is popularly known as “caballito” which means small horse in Spanish.
Highball
Highball is the name given to a popular family of mixed alcoholic drinks. The drink is composed with a large amount of a non-alcoholic mixer and an alcoholic base. The drink originated in 1898, and gets its popular name for two reasons, high refers to the fact that it is served in a tall large straight sided glass and ball which means a drink of whisky. Some popular examples of highball mixtures include rum and coke, scotch and soda and a gin and tonic.
Margarita
The Margarita is a very popular cocktail mixture that consists of tequila, lime or lemon juice, orange flavor liqueur and can also be served with salt on the rim of the glass. This drink is very popular in the U.S. and is popularly served in three ways: on the rocks (shaken with ice), frozen (with blended ice) and straight up (without ice). Margaritas can be served in a variety of glasses, the most common is the famous “margarita glass” which is similar to champagne glasses. This glass is also used for shrimp cocktails and to serve ice cream.
Beer
Beer is the world’s most popular, oldest (dates back to the ancient Egyptians) and widely consumed alcoholic beverage, and is made by the fermentation and brewing of starches the most common being malted barley. To give it flavor hops are used which acts like a natural preservative and adds bitterness to the drink.
