Materva Yerba Mate Soda Brand
Materva Yerba Mate Soda
Materva Yerba Mate Soda is manufactured by the Cawy Bottling Company, who bought the rights to the drink in 1965. The Materva Soft Drink Company was founded in Matanzas, Cuba in 1920 and the Materva Yerba Mate was produced and sold in Cuba until 1960, when the Cuban Revolution brought the nationalization of all private industry. The Cawy Bottling Company was established in 1964 and incorporated in Miami, Florida.
Cawy's first product introduction to the US market was Cawy Lemon Lime. The company soon expanded to offer other fruit-flavored drinks (pineapple-flavored Jupiña, Cawy's biggest seller) and herbal drinks such Materva, a yerba mate-enhanced soda.
Cawy Bottling manufactures fruit-flavored soft drinks favored by members of the Latin community in Florida's Miami-Dade and Broward counties. Its products are distributed throughout the US, Canada, Spain, and Central America.
Materva tastes like a smoother red bull drink, with a fascinating aftertaste. Unlike the somewhat bitter tea-like mate on which it is based, Materva is sweet with an almost bubble-gum flavor. There is also a diet version called Diet Materva.
